We are Volunteers

Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes! Some bring valuable skills and some come to learn new ones but whatever their reason all find volunteering a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Our volunteers help inspire and support the vulnerable people we work with and at the same time are able to add the experience to their CV, gain a reference and it’s a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

Many of our volunteers are looking for employment, both full and part time. If you have a vacancy and need a reliable, trustworthy employee with an amazing work ethos, talk to us in confidence. We may have the gift wrapped candidate you are searching for!

Volunteer Journeys

Many of our beneficiaries and referrals start their journey with us as volunteers.

They come to us from many backgrounds and for many reasons. Some work with us for days or weeks and some for years, but all have their eyes set on securing full time employment and developing their careers.

All bring unique experiences, insights and skills to the team and all hopefully take different things away from their time with us.

To help us understand if we’re providing the necessary skills and support and gather feedback about what our volunteers think of Aspire and their experience with us, from time to time we ask an independent person to speak to them after they have left us.

How do I enquire about volunteering at Aspire?

To start, please check the sidebar or relevant button on our website to see whether we currently have any volunteering opportunities available. If the sidebar says “No Current Spaces” check back at a later date.

As a small organisation, Aspire is a very popular place to volunteer, so opportunities can be limited and places are often highly sought after. This means it can sometimes be difficult to secure a placement.

If we do have spaces available, there are two main ways people usually join us as volunteers:

1. Through a support or referring agency

Many of our volunteers and work placements come to us through organisations that are already supporting them, such as employment support services, charities, colleges, or other agencies.

These referrals are often for people who are looking to build confidence, develop practical skills, and gain valuable experience to help them move towards paid employment with a mainstream employer.

If you are already working with a support organisation, the best first step is to ask your support worker, adviser, or agency to contact us on your behalf.

2. Through self-referral for specific roles

From time to time, we may also offer opportunities for people to apply directly.

When we have space for self-referred volunteers, we advertise these roles through the Sheffield Volunteer Centre website:
